Ackee and Saltfish
Pronounced AK-ee and SALT-fish

Ackee and saltfish is the national dish of Jamaica, a savoury dish of ackee, a soft yellow fruit, cooked with salted codfish, onions, peppers, tomatoes and seasonings. Cooked ackee is soft, creamy and mild, often compared to scrambled eggs. It is eaten above all at breakfast with sides such as fried dumplings, boiled green banana or yam. Ackee must be prepared safely, so tinned ackee is the popular choice.
